Bowen Kim, Founder and Co-President of LHMBD

Thanks for visiting our website. I am currently a Junior at Loyola High School of Los Angeles. I am musically inclined, interested in science, and passionate about debate, and adore the sports of professional basketball and Formula One Racing. Growing up with Epidermolysis Bullosa, I was often unsatisfied by the lack of knowledge about EB in the medical community. I would frequently encounter medical professionals, including dermatologists, who were unfamiliar with EB, leaving me frustrated about what seemed to be an unknown or “mysterious” condition. My Sophomore year coursework truly inspired me to create this organization. A major theme in theology was working to solve social issues such as homeless. After being astonished by the correlation between domestic violence and female homelessness, I realized my own hypocrisy of being ignorant of issues that deserve more attention. Because of the hopelessness I felt when learning that EB was “too rare to cure,” I learned that there are so many people, marginalized in one way or another, by things perceived as too minor to solve, who, too, feel hopeless. Therefore, it is my mission to bring more awareness to frequently ignored issues.

Fun fact about me: Lewis Hamilton is my favorite F1 driver, and Kyrie Irving is my favorite basketball player.
